Instead of scaling the Himalayas, trekking across the Antarctic or traipsing through the Brazilian rainforest, Robbie Coltrane has set himself a uniquely British challenge. Armed with a map, a classic car and a sense of adventure, he’ll be exploring strange and exotic parts that are a bit closer to home. By venturing away from the tourist fast-track and on to the B roads of the UK, he’ll be criss-crossing the winding back roads of our nation to discover all the people, places and events that make up Incredible Britain.

In the face of a fast-paced, increasingly Americanized, modern world, we sometimes forget what makes our country so unique. To remind us, Robbie will unearth our strangest festivals, oddest people and our oldest traditions. From cheese-chasing in Gloucestershire and Star Trek conventions in the Black Country to gurning competitions in the North East and Burry Man whiskey-fuelled walks through Scottish towns, Robbie’s drive is a determination to uncover what makes us singularly British – and our country truly incredible.

  Robbie Coltrane

Robbie Coltrane is one of the UK’s most prolific and respected film and television actors. He first gained popularity in the early 1980s for his appearances on such shows as Saturday Night Live, and since then he has starred in numerous television shows, including Blackadder the Third, Blackadder’s Christmas Carol, Tutti Frutti (for which he received a BAFTA nomination) and The Robbie Coltrane Special. He is perhaps best known for his work in the award-winning and internationally popular television series Cracker, which brought him numerous acting honours, including three consecutive BAFTA awards for Best Television Actor.

Also a sought-after actor on the other side of the Atlantic, Robbie has starred in countless Hollywood blockbusters including Nuns on the Run and The Pope Must Die (for which he received the Peter Sellers Award for Comedy), Stormbreaker, Ocean’s Twelve, From Hell, The World Is Not Enough and Goldeneye. He continues to delight millions of adults and children alike as Rubeus Hagrid, caretaker of Hogwarts, in all of the phenomenally successful Harry Potter films.

Robbie was awarded the OBE in the 2006 New Year’s Honours List for his services to drama.
